Atom Probe Analysis of Alumina Ceramics
Grain boundary structure and chemistry play a large role in determining bulk properties of alumina ceramics. However, characterization of grain boundary chemistry, in particular carbon segregation, by traditional electron microscopy remains a difficult challenge. My project aims to apply laser pulsed atom probe tomography to the study of carbon doped alumina in order to characterize grain boundary structure/chemistry and its influence on bulk properties.
