Phil is a postdoctoral researcher in the Dept. of Earth Science (Oxford) that specializes in linking micro- and nano-scale microstrucutures to large scale problems. He has a Masters degree in Economic Geology (gold mineralization) and a PhD in Petrology from the University of Wisconsin (EPMA/APT to characterize ultra-reduced phases in the lunar soil).
His current research focuses on using APT discover the controls on nanoscale gold mineralization, characterizing grain boundary elemental mobility to understand the controls on solid state reactions, and studying nanospheres of iron metal in Apollo 16 samples to understand the processes that affect airless planetary bodies.
