The work ‘Understanding corrosion and hydrogen pickup of Zr nuclear fuel cladding alloys - the role of oxide microstructure, porosity, suboxide and SPPs’, authored by J. Hu, B. Setiadinata, T. Aarholt, A. Garner, A. Vilalta-Clemente, J. Partezana, P. Frankel, P.A.J. Bagot, S. Lozano-Perez, A.J. Wilkinson, M. Preuss, M.P. Moody and C.R.M. Grovenor has been awarded as The John H. Schemel Best Paper Award at the 18th ASTM International Symposium on Zirconium in the Nuclear Industry. This event was sponsored by ASTM Committee B10 on Reactive and Refractory Metals and Alloys and held on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina (USA) in May 2016.

This work has been made in collaboration with the University of Manchester and Westinghouse Electric Co.

The award will be presented to the authors at the next symposium, to be held in Manchester in 2019, and will be recognized in an ASTM Special Technical Publication currently in process.
